The famous shot of Marilyn’s dress blowing up around her legs as she stands over a subway grate was originally shot on Manhattan’s Lexington Avenue at 52nd St. on 09/15/1954 at 01:00 AM. The original shot on that night never made it to the screen as the noise of the crowd had made it unusable. Billy Wilder later re-staged the scene on the studio lot.

Salvatore Ferragamo made over 40 shoes for Marilyn Monroe, among them the famous red rhinestone stiletto heels, which have been sold for $42.000 at Christie’s in 1999. Marilyn’s Ferragamo high heels with metal reinforcement became her trademark:

“I don’t know who invented high heels but all women owe him a lot.”
(Marilyn Monroe)

Ferragamo shoes first appeared on screen in “Way Down East” and in “The Ten Commandments”. Some of the most recent movies Ferragamo supplied shoes for include “The Departed”, “Miami Vice” and “The Devil Wears Prada”.

Customers included Hollywood’s elite: Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Judy Garland, Gloria Swanson, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Sofia Loren, and many more.
