“For a totally made-to-made shoe, it takes four people at least four weeks. Other times, shoes are bought without my knowledge and then it’s a lovely surprise to see a star wearing them.
The couture process is a very private thing – an interesting and charming collaboration. And for that reason I have to work with people I like.
Sometimes I deal with just the stylist, sometimes the actress. I will find out their desires, draw some sketches. We take exact measurements for the foot, then we work on the last [the mould for the shoe]. We’ll do a couple of fittings to check it is comfortable, then begin to refine the style.”
